As anyone who has ever shopped for slippers can attest, there's a style to suit every individual, from glam, vintage-y mules to warm and fuzzy types that look as though stuffed animals swallowed your feet. To surface the best slippers in a crowded market, whether you’re shopping for yourself or for your Valentine, we asked 10 travel and apparel pros—including a spa director, a stylist and a personal shopper—which versions make their grade. These are the ones they recommend most for style, longevity and comfort.

A self-described homebody who wears furry slippers year round, Leia Taylor Ward, the designer and founder of LTW Design in New Canaan, Conn., says Birkenstocks are her go-to—specifically the twin-strap Arizona Big Buckle style covered in teddy shearling. "They have arch support and a bottom that's durable," Ward says of the moldable cork footbed and EVA soles. She likes them so much, she takes them along on trips and has also given Big Buckle Birks as gifts to her sister and friends.

Sherry Farrahi, the stylist and founder of L.A.'s Style Maven service, loves the Fluff Yeah Slides from Ugg, which have been making the rounds on social media for years. With their supportive elastic back strap, wearing these feels like "walking on clouds," she says, and they also keep your feet warm without making them sweat. Though we found the design on the juvenile side, we had to admit they were exceptionally comfortable, even if the blocky platform soles made us worry about twisting an ankle.

$50 at Minnetonka

With softness, style and functionality top of mind, Caitlin McClelland, spa director at Seraphina Spa at the JW Marriott Grand Rapids in Michigan, fell hard for the multipurpose Cally slippers from Minnesota-based brand Minnetonka. "I wear them when I’m relaxing on the back porch, doing chores, and even while traveling," she says. McClelland has found that the high-quality construction—genuine suede with a plush pile lining and thin rubber sole—stands the test of time, and she's such a fan, she doles out these mocs as Christmas gifts to friends. "Michigan winters are very cold and snowy," she says, "and these slippers are perfect for those extreme days."

$70 at EMU Australia

$70 at Amazon

Farrahi learned about Emu Australia, makers of her other favorite fuzzies, through Instagram more than five years ago, and she's been a fan ever since. EMU's shaggy but snug-fitting Mayberry style with a crossover detail wears well because it's constructed of breathable, moisture-wicking materials, including a 100% Australian sheepskin upper and footbed, she says. Sold in a variety of neutrals and colorful shades (baby blue, mineral red and more), they have a fashion-y feel, whether you’re wearing them indoors or out. Says Farrahi: "They’re luxury slippers without the crazy luxury price."

$59 at The North Face

After hearing her brother and sister-in-law rave about The North Face's ThermoBall Traction V Mules, Brooklyn-based fashion stylist Lilli Millhiser gave them a go last year, and they’ve since accompanied her on many weekend trips upstate. "They’re like little clouds for your feet," she says, noting the grippy rubber outsoles "are fantastic because they don't attract pet hair like suede slippers do." (We found the velvety lining delightful and love that the silhouette is slimmer than most of its puffy competitors.) Other appealing features include a water-repellent upper and a collapsible heel with elastic side panels that "fold down nicely so you can slip them on without having to bend," Millhiser says. Plus, in addition to neutrals, they come in fun prints (including a terrazzo-inspired one) and loud-ish color combos like Paisley Purple with Apricot Ice.

$90 at Zappos

The best slippers are "soft but breathable," says Adrianna Fie, the Minneapolis-based founder of Eurocentric home goods retailer Flotsam+Fork, which is why she seeks out styles with good arch support that are made of natural fibers like wool. Her favorites are the Haflinger Classic Boiled Wool Slippers. "They’re the right mix of cozy and structured, with a classic look that goes with anything," Fie says. She bought her mom a pair for Christmas, and her mom became such "a huge fan" that she then purchased the sweat-wicking, rubber-soled mules in "all the colors."

$40 at Dick's Sporting Goods

$45 at Bombas

Sheri Howell, head of marketing for Medjet, a Birmingham, Ala.-based traveler protection program, owns approximately 10 different pairs of Bombas’ Gripper Slippers "for different moods, but also so I can find at least one pair when I need them," she says. She's most partial to her slipper-sock hybrid style. They’re "looser than socks, but still soft and flexible," with an interior that's lined with a brushed, blanket-like material and grippy rubber dots on the bottom that help prevent slips. " She loves bringing them on trips to wear on the plane and for padding around her hotel room. "They’re super lightweight and take up zero space in my carry-on, and if you want to wash them in the sink, they dry really fast," she notes. Of the slippers we tested, the Grippers were the ones we found ourselves reaching for again and again. They’re nicely cushioned but not overly structured, and our feet never sweat in them, though Howell says they do wear out faster than traditional soled slippers. The bottoms picked up some pet hair, but they’re machine-washable. Plus, we liked that you could curl up on a couch without removing them like you might bulkier slippers.

Because it's nice to give everyday moments some sparkle, "even if you’re just making pancakes on a Sunday morning," BCBGeneration's iridescent pearl Tria slippers are a great pair to have at home, says Ashley Kirkland, director of interior architecture at Grizform Design in Washington, D.C. She loves them not only for their glam look (sparkly sequins, faux fur trim) but also for their cozy feel, substantial cushioning and slip-resistance, she says. The textured sole makes them wearable indoors and out.

Spending more than half the year on the road and in high-end hotels has made Tina Necrason something of a slipper connoisseur. More recently, the head of residential development for Montage International, a luxury hospitality management company in Irvine, Calif., has been working from home more often and wanted slippers that "felt and looked more like a shoe, but didn't compromise comfort, to ‘dress up’ the Zoom uniform of athleisure wear." This handcrafted, shearling-lined pair—a modern take on the traditional babouche, a flat style of slipper common in Morocco—filled the bill. We tried them out too, among other pro-recommended pairs, and found these the chicest and most pampering of the bunch; or, as Necrason refers to them: "a small moment of indulgence."

$244 at Tracey Neuls

$338 Save $94

An ideal pair of travel slippers must tuck easily into a carry-on, says Necrason, and be chameleonic enough to wear both as both a room slipper and when grabbing a quick coffee in the hotel lobby. (They shouldn't be so casual that it's obvious you’re wearing slippers, she explains.) With several pairs of Tracy Neuls streetwear shoes—loafers, sneakers and more—already in her closet, she's now added the London designer's shearling-lined, hair-on-cow-leather Cuddy mules. The "fun and stylish" hot pink pair is just as comfortable as her other Neuls, she reports, while offering the slipper-and-shoe versatility she had been looking for. "They’re a staple in my suitcase now," she says, "along with my favorite Italian scarf."

$15 at OYSHO

Katya Bychkova, the New York City–based style and beauty expert behind StyleSprinter.com, favors slippers that are lightweight, and preferably made of organic materials like cashmere and cotton. "My toes can tell the difference between a cheap, synthetic fabric and an all-natural luxurious one," she claims. Bychkova also seeks out wider styles for her high arches, like these flip-flop style slippers with thermoplastic rubber soles, which "feel more secure" than traditional types and are even washable. She recently purchased a pair for her boyfriend, who was traipsing around the house like a Clydesdale in noisy, beach-style thongs. "He loves hotel slippers and flip-flops," she says, "so why not get him a style that combines the best of both worlds?"

$150 at Chris Arlotta

For a warmer winter slipper, Bychkova is all in on these luxurious, blush-pink cashmere slides from Chris Arlotta, which she describes as "lightweight, timeless and a bit whimsical." Available in three colors or prints, including leopard, they also make a perfect self-care present. She bought hers at Bloomingdale's, along with a cashmere bathroom, as a birthday gift to herself.

Another year-round favorite of Kirkland's are the Kīpe’a Heu slippers from OluKai, a Hawaiian-inspired brand, in a saturated shade of blue called Storm. The flip-flop-style upper is wrapped in plush shearling, so they’re toasty in winter and, with their open-toe design, "perfect for a summer evening." On top of that, Kirkland says, their resilient rubber soles make them "great for running out to the mailbox—or down to the concierge desk at the hotel."

$30 at Quince

$48 Save $18

For a spa-like look, these slippers from Quince are a great option. They’re designed to feel like your favorite plush bath towels, since they’re made of 100% organic Turkish cotton in an absorbent waffle weave with slip-resistant soles. One plus worth noting: They’re machine washable, so you can always keep in spa-quality condition.

$85 at Nordstrom

These slippers from Sorel offer an impressive balance of warmth and support, which makes sense coming from a brand that specializes in snow boots. The faux fur lining is soft and cozy, while the molded EVA footbeds cushion your feet in every step, whether you’re padding around the house or braving the cold to walk the dog.
